Truck accident in Ikaalinen leaves driver dead and asphalt spilled on Highway 3

A truck transporting asphalt crashed into a ditch and overturned on its side in Ikaalinen on Tuesday evening. The driver of the vehicle died in the incident, which occurred on Highway 3 near Sammi. The police received a report of the accident shortly before 10 PM from emergency services.

Preliminary observations at the scene indicated that the vehicle was coming from the direction of Tampere when it veered across the oncoming lanes into a ditch. The hot asphalt it was carrying spilled onto a nearby field.

Authorities conducted a technical examination at the site and interviewed eyewitnesses. The Traffic Accident Investigation Board has begun investigating the causes of the accident. The police are looking into the incident as a case of endangering traffic safety and as a death investigation.
