Heavy metal lyricist Stebbi Jak has shifted his focus towards love, grief, personal reckoning and everyday life, mbl.is reports.

In an interview on mbl.is’s Dagmál programme, he describes his second solo album, Líttu í kringum þig, released this summer, as varied and “patchwork-like”. Although the record uses many different colours, he says the combination works.

“I’m just going to keep doing this. Stebbi Jak can go in all directions, and he intends to do so,” he says.

After writing heavy metal lyrics for a long time, often about some form of human tragedy, Stebbi says he now wants to get used to giving his music brighter colours.

“Now I’m really singing a lot about everyday life,” he says, recalling his late friend Prins Póló’s words: “It’s best to sing about everyday life; there is most of it.”

Stebbi Jak will celebrate the album’s release with concerts at Græni hatturinn in Akureyri on Friday, August 21, and at Bæjarbíó in Hafnarfjörður on Friday, September 4.
