Frederiksberg Municipality will test sensors at 300 parking spaces near Frederiksberg Swimming Hall, allowing drivers to see available spaces in an app, DR reports.

The pilot project is intended to reduce the time motorists spend driving around in search of a parking space. It is expected to run for about a year, starting at the beginning of next year.

Tine Vitkov, a Frederiksberg resident, welcomed the idea. She said finding a space was often difficult, particularly when she returned home after 6pm.

She said she had once driven around for half an hour before finding a space.

Jan E. Jørgensen of the Venstre party, chair of the municipality’s Environment and Traffic Committee, said the aim was to help drivers who spent a long time circling because they could not find an available space.

He said the app would show where spaces were available, potentially reducing the time spent searching.

Copenhagen Municipality launched a similar project last year. Around 4,500 parking spaces are expected to receive sensors once a supplier has been selected.
