Eight doctors reported monthly incomes above five million

Eight doctors in Iceland had average monthly taxable incomes above five million Icelandic krónur last year, according to calculations published by mbl.is based on Frjáls verslun’s income magazine. The magazine examined the incomes of 5,570 Icelanders.
Radiologist Halldór Benediktsson topped the list of doctors and dentists, with monthly income of just over 6.1 million krónur in 2025.

Alma Möller, a doctor and former director of health, had the highest income among ministers and members of parliament.
The income magazine said the figures represent taxable income in 2025 and do not necessarily reflect the individuals’ regular salaries. The difference may include payments for serving on committees, other additional work and benefits from share option agreements.
The figures are based on the municipal tax base recorded in the assessment register. They do not include capital income, such as interest, dividends or proceeds from the sale of shares. The income may also include one-off payments resulting from withdrawals of private pension savings.
