Salmonella has been detected at Ylitalo farm in Pöytyä, Yle reports. Eggs produced by the farm have been withdrawn from sale.
The result was confirmed on Tuesday after samples were taken the previous Monday. The farm has about 40,000 laying hens and supplies the Munax egg-packing facility under contract.
The eggs were sold in shops as well as at markets in Yläne, Säkylä and Parainen. They were also available through the Reko local food network in Turku’s Länsikeskus district.
Rauno Kajander of Ylitalo farm said notices about the disposal and recall of the eggs had been issued through several channels. The farm will undergo extensive cleaning and disinfection.
