Bryndís Ósk Jökla Björnsdóttir has been appointed executive director of the National Association of Small Boat Owners, mbl.is reported. She began work at the start of August and will initially work alongside outgoing director Örn Pálsson.

“I am very excited about the job ahead and look forward to learning more about all its aspects alongside Örn, who naturally has a wealth of knowledge and experience,” Bryndís said.

She said she was grateful for the opportunity and had great respect for both the position and her predecessor’s work at the association.

Kjartan Páll Sveinsson, chairman of the association, said he and Örn welcomed Bryndís’s appointment. He highlighted her experience in project management and law as an important addition to the association’s work on behalf of small boat owners.

“This is a broad field to familiarise oneself with, and we are fortunate to have the opportunity for experience to be passed between generations through Örn and Bryndís,” he said, while thanking Örn for his work.

Bryndís was raised in Höfn, a town in Hornafjörður, but has so far worked outside the fishing industry. She was a glacier and hiking guide for many years and also managed the mountain guide training programme in Höfn for a period.

For the past nine years, she has worked in project management in both non-profit organisations and the construction sector, including on safety and quality issues, contract drafting and projects related to environmental certification.

Most recently, she worked temporarily as a project manager for safety and quality at Sorpa. She holds a master’s degree in project management from Reykjavik University and is studying for a master’s degree in business law at Bifröst University.
