A 24-year-old woman has been given a seven-month suspended prison sentence for embezzling about 24,000 euros from a subject association at Tampere University, Yle reported.

The Pirkanmaa District Court convicted her of aggravated embezzlement. The money belonged to ITU ry, the subject association for early childhood education teachers at the university.

The offences took place between April and December 2025. The woman transferred the association’s funds to her own account on numerous occasions while holding its online banking credentials.

According to the court, she entered a false recipient name in the payment details to make the transfers. The court considered the offence aggravated because a large amount of money was involved and because she abused a position of responsibility within the association.

In addition to the suspended sentence handed down in May, the woman was ordered to pay the association more than 27,000 euros in compensation. She admitted the offence in court, and the judgment is final.
