Kainuu’s wellbeing services county expects its full-year result to fall €7.9 million short of budget, based on figures from January to June, Yle reports.
The annual budget was prepared with a surplus of slightly more than €10 million. The latest forecast puts the surplus at just €2.2 million.
The county needs a surplus budget to cover deficits accumulated in previous years.
The main reason for rising costs, and the biggest risk, is that the cost of purchased services is exceeding the budget. A significant share of the excess costs comes from services bought from university hospitals.
Kainuu’s wellbeing services county has asked the government for more time to cover deficits of more than €20 million accumulated in previous years. No decision has yet been made.
