16-year-old dies in Roskilde stabbing after dispute escalates

A 16-year-old boy has died after being stabbed in Roskilde during an escalating dispute with another 16-year-old, DR reports. Police say there are currently no indications that the killing is connected to criminal groups.

The stabbing took place early Friday evening near Folkeparken, a park in Roskilde. The other 16-year-old has been arrested and is due to appear in a preliminary custody hearing later on Saturday.

Michael Sehested, deputy police inspector with the Central and West Zealand Police, said investigators quickly identified the suspect after finding traces linked to him at the scene.

The victim was a student at Himmelev Gymnasium, the school told DR News.

The incident occurred during a so-called puttefest, a recurring gathering for new upper-secondary students in Folkeparken at the start of the school year. Klaus Walmod, chairman of the Night Ravens in Roskilde, said young people usually meet there for beer and socialising.

Police and volunteers were present at the event. Walmod said the park was quickly filled with police vehicles and that a medical helicopter was called, making it clear that something serious had happened.

Police said the investigation is well advanced but urged anyone who was near the scene on Friday evening to come forward.
