Minor tried to set fire to Lohja upper secondary school

A minor student tried to set fire to an upper secondary school in Lohja and told authorities they had attempted a school shooting, Yle reported. The fire did not start.
Emergency services were initially called to the scene and alerted police after finding a student behaving confusedly and threateningly.
Police said the minor had also tried to harm themselves. Officers found an edged weapon, ignition materials and a manifesto in the student’s possession. The minor was taken to hospital for treatment by emergency medical services. No one else was injured.
No students were still inside the school when the incident occurred, although a few staff members were present.
Police have begun a preliminary investigation on suspicion of destruction and preparation of an aggravated offence against life or health.
