Parliament committee reviews African swine fever restrictions

Finland’s Agriculture and Forestry Committee received a briefing on the African swine fever situation on Friday, Yle reports, citing the Parliament’s communications office.

Officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry presented the latest information. The committee was briefed on plans to expand the core area of the infection zone, the number of cases and the restrictions affecting businesses in the zone.

The committee said it welcomed the comprehensive update on the disease situation and the authorities’ actions. It said a rapid response from authorities and other actors was crucial to keeping the infection zone and the area subject to restrictions as limited as possible.

Committee chair Ritva Elomaa said the impact of the restrictions on farmers and other businesses in the region was a particular concern. The committee will continue monitoring the situation.
