Nordic experts discuss EU impact on agriculture

The Farmers Association of Iceland is hosting a seminar in Reykjavík on agriculture in a European context, with experts from Finland, Norway and Sweden sharing their experience of European affairs, mbl.is reports.

The seminar begins at 10am on Friday at the Hilton Reykjavík Nordica hotel on Suðurlandsbraut and will be streamed online. Panel discussions will follow the presentations, allowing guests to question the speakers.

Esa Härmälä of Finland will discuss the country’s experience of negotiations with the European Union, its membership and the lessons Iceland can draw from it.

Bjørn Gimming of Norway will speak about Norway’s experience of cooperation through the European Economic Area, the position of agriculture in Norway and the views that have led Norwegian farmers to remain outside the European Union.

Ingrid Rydberg of Sweden will discuss Swedish agriculture within the European Union, how the union’s policies have shaped farmers’ operating conditions and what Iceland can learn from Sweden’s experience.
