The 10 million kroner allocated for the road from the Fámjin tunnel to the village will not be enough to complete the work, Kringvarp Føroya reported. The mayor of Fámjin, Jóanis Lisberg, said residents were disappointed.
The Fámjin tunnel was completed last summer, and work on the road down to Fámjin resumed in June. The most urgent improvements are expected to be finished by the end of the year, but additional funding will be needed to complete all the planned work.
“People in Fámjin are very disappointed,” Lisberg said. He noted that the funding was allocated as part of the tunnel project and was intended to cover the full road construction. Work will temporarily be wrapped up towards the end of the year, when the allocation has been spent.
