Diesel protest group rejects call to switch to electric motors

The protest group Dieselbrølet was told to switch to electric motors after meeting representatives of the Conservative Party at Arendalsuka, NRK reported.

“We cannot live with that. Either we have to shut down or we will go bankrupt. It is our livelihoods they are putting at risk,” Jan-Erik Rafoss of Dieselbrølet told NRK.

The Conservative Party said several days ago that it would not support extending fuel price cuts beyond August. The cuts were introduced on May 1 and are due to end in August.

The issue has been heavily debated in politics in recent weeks. Fuel prices have risen sharply because of the war in Iran, according to NRK.

The Centre Party secured a majority for the urgent processing of a Conservative Party proposal for cheaper petrol. All the other centre-left parties voted against it.
