A man arrested in a forceful manner in Gnoðarvogur was released before Landsréttur heard his appeal against a remand decision, mbl.is reports. His lawyer, Elimar Hauksson, said the man is expected no longer to be under investigation in connection with the case.
The man is one of 13 people arrested in connection with an attack in Vallargerði on Kársnes that led to the death of a Polish man in his fifties. Four people remain in custody: two in Iceland, one in Poland and another in Spain.
He was arrested with another man in Gnoðarvogur on Sunday. The other man is from the same country as the deceased. The arrested man denies any connection to the crime.
“There are expectations that my client will no longer be under investigation in connection with this terrible crime, which appears to have been committed,” Elimar Hauksson said.
