One arrested after eclipse crowds leave Látrabjarg

One person was arrested after thousands of people watched Wednesday’s total solar eclipse from Látrabjarg, mbl.is reported. Police redirected nearly 3,000 vehicles away from Látrabjarg after the eclipse, with most travellers behaving well, according to the Westfjords chief of police.
Hlynur Snorrason said traffic had proceeded without accidents. Police also intervened with some drivers who exceeded the speed limit.
“So far, everything has gone extremely well, and it can be said that the traffic has proceeded without accidents,” Hlynur told mbl.is.
About 2,400 vehicles travelled along the route to Látrabjarg on Wednesday. Police carried out extensive traffic monitoring to remind drivers to adjust their speed.
It took some time to clear Látrabjarg after the eclipse. Police reversed the one-way system that had been in place on the road leading to the headland in order to direct traffic away.
Hlynur said police officers and rescue workers were stationed at several posts and that almost everyone they encountered behaved well.
One person was arrested for disorderly conduct after appearing to be under the influence of stimulants. “He was not quite in the same state of mind as the others, so he was simply arrested and taken to a cell,” Hlynur said.
