A digital editor at Norwegian newspaper Rana Blad is suing his employer after receiving a changed-dismissal notice in March, NRK reports, citing Journalisten.

The notice requires him to join the editorial department’s rota, including evening and weekend shifts.

According to the court record from a planning meeting earlier this summer, the editor is seeking to have the dismissal declared invalid and is claiming compensation and redress. He argues that the employer’s blameworthy conduct caused him a significant burden.

Rana Blad disputes that the dismissal was unjustified. The newspaper says the change was based on genuine operational needs and that requiring him to work shifts falls within management’s right to organise the business.

The case will be heard at Helgeland District Court on November 17 and 18.
