Helsinki and Vantaa investigate lost tram procurement

Yle reports, citing Helsingin Uutiset, that Helsinki and Vantaa will examine the tram procurement that Škoda Transtech lost. Vantaa will investigate why Uppsala in Sweden chose a Škoda tram in a comparable situation.

Helsinki’s city board’s corporate division will also review the winning bid for the Helsinki metropolitan area’s tram procurement in the autumn.

The city boards are not responsible for the procurement itself, but they must decide whether to approve the 61 million euros in additional funding required for it. Stadler’s winning bid is worth 332 million euros.

Škoda Transtech lost the tender after being excluded from the competition. The company has since tried in several ways to overturn the procurement decision but has been unsuccessful.
