Guests at the Iceland Eclipse cultural and music festival in Hellissandur watched the total solar eclipse through the clouds, mbl.is reports.
“There was a great atmosphere here,” said Jón Bjarni Steinsson, one of the festival’s organisers.
“We saw the sun through the clouds and saw it happen. It was incredible. Then I ran onto the stage and asked for a requested song, so the first song after the eclipse was Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler,” he said.
Jón Bjarni said he was delighted with the experience after months of planning the festival with his wife.
“My wife and I have been organising the festival since March last year, and now we are simply coming down from the excitement. It was fantastic,” he said.
The festival began on Wednesday and runs until Saturday, with nine stages and performances by artists including Ásgeir, Daði Freyr, Emilíana Torrini, Imogen Heap, GusGus and Hjaltalín.
“This is the first time I have come down to the festival grounds in clean clothes, with my teeth brushed and without a backpack. Now it is time to celebrate,” Jón Bjarni said.
