Total solar eclipse plunges western Iceland into darkness

A total solar eclipse passed over western Iceland at around 5:45 p.m., mbl.is reported. The longest period of totality occurred at Látrabjarg, where it lasted about two minutes and 13 seconds.

The sky gradually darkened until it became as dark as midnight. Totality lasted about one minute in the capital region, which brightened quickly once the eclipse ended.

The partial eclipse continued and was expected to end at around 6:45 p.m.
