Andersson faces coalition threat over sick-pay deduction pledge

Even if Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson wins the election, she could struggle to form a government, SVT political commentator Mats Knutson writes. The Centre Party is threatening to withdraw its support for her as prime minister if the Social Democrats pursue one of their key election pledges.

Andersson has repeatedly stressed the importance of abolishing the qualifying-day deduction, a key Social Democratic campaign promise. The Centre Party, however, opposes the proposal.

Centre Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist told SVT that her party would rather go into opposition than help abolish the deduction, arguing that the change could become costly for Swedish companies.

The dispute with the Centre Party is one of several problems Andersson could face if she attempts to form a government after the election.
