Total solar eclipse becomes visible in Iceland for first time since 1954

A total solar eclipse will be visible from Iceland on Wednesday for the first time since 1954, mbl.is reports. Totality will be seen from the Westfjords, Snæfellsnes, western Iceland, the capital region and the Reykjanes peninsula.
The total phase will run from 17:44 to 17:49:18, although its duration will vary by location. It will last longest at Látrabjarg, for two minutes and 13 seconds, and for one minute and one second in central Reykjavík.
The eclipse will begin as a partial eclipse at around 16:47 before becoming total. The full event will last two hours and end at about 18:45.
An estimated 75,000 visitors are believed to have arrived in Iceland by air to watch the eclipse, while about 53,000 passengers are expected to arrive on cruise ships.
Police will maintain a heightened level of preparedness, with road closures and traffic management planned in the capital region and western Iceland, where most people are expected to gather to watch the eclipse.
