Police investigation completed after fatal stabbing in Turku

Yle reports that police have completed their pre-trial investigation into the death of a 33-year-old man in Turku’s Lauste district in April. The case will now be referred for consideration of charges.

A 44-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman are suspected of killing him. One of the suspects remains in custody.

Police believe the suspects stabbed the man several times, causing fatal injuries. Officers were alerted to loud noise at an apartment building and found the man unresponsive in the yard. He was pronounced dead despite resuscitation efforts.

“According to the pre-trial investigation, there had been an argument between the suspects and the victim before the fatal blows. In this situation, the victim also injured one of the suspects,” Samuli Lempiäinen, the detective inspector leading the investigation at the Southwest Finland Police Department, said in a statement.

The parties knew each other, according to police. The victim’s visit to the apartment was in some way connected with debts, discussing them or collecting them.

Police initially detained four people in connection with the case. Two were released soon afterwards.
