Summer warmth returns to Finland this weekend

Summer-like warmth will return to Finland this weekend as rain showers and thunderstorms move east and high pressure brings a dry spell, Yle reports. Temperatures in western Finland could rise above 20 degrees Celsius.

Wednesday afternoon will remain changeable, with scattered showers possible across southern and central Finland, particularly near the eastern border. Isolated thunderstorms may occur, while skies are already clearing in many areas.

Cool air from the northwest will keep temperatures between just below 15 and just below 20 degrees. Winds may still be gusty in the south.

By evening, conditions will become drier and clearer across most of the country. Some final showers may occur in the east. Cloud cover will vary in the south, central Finland and northern Lapland, while areas in the north favourable for observing the solar eclipse are expected to remain mostly clear.

On Thursday, a high-pressure ridge will extend over Finland, keeping the weather dry. Despite variable cloud cover, sunshine will reach many areas, and warmer air will begin to move in. Temperatures will be a few degrees higher than on Wednesday.

Light rain will approach from the west on Friday, but mostly dry conditions will continue. Temperatures will rise above 20 degrees in the west, while eastern Finland and Lapland will see readings between 15 and 20 degrees.

Temperatures will gradually increase towards the weekend, with the highest readings in western Finland. The late summer warmth will bring several warm days, including for people attending the Flow Festival in Helsinki this weekend.
