Odyssey overtakes Michael Jackson as Iceland’s top film

Odyssey has become Iceland’s most popular and highest-grossing film of the year so far, according to mbl.is. The film previously held both top positions.

Geir Gunnarsson, managing director of Myndform, the film’s Icelandic distributor, said it took first place on both lists after the holiday weekend. It has also become Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing film in Iceland.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which was released on July 30, has quickly moved into second place. It has grossed nearly 79 million Icelandic króna, while Odyssey has taken in about 98 million króna.

Spider-Man has overtaken Michael, the film about Michael Jackson, which is now third on both the attendance and grossing lists. Michael had earned about 74 million króna by Monday morning.

Tom Holland has major roles in both films, playing Telemachus, the son of Odysseus, in Odyssey and Spider-Man in the Marvel film.
