Swedish police conclude investigation into M/S Eckerö car deck collapse in Sweden

Swedish police have concluded their investigation into the collapse of the car deck on the M/S Eckerö, as reported by Ålands Radio. The incident occurred in October 2022 while the ship was docked in Sweden, resulting in minor injuries to two individuals.

During loading operations, a cable on the upper car deck failed, leading to the deck’s collapse. In addition to the injured passengers, several vehicles became trapped underneath the fallen structure.

While the Swedish police initially looked into the incident as a potential cause of injury, they have now closed their investigation. However, the Swedish Accident Investigation Authority will continue its examination of the case.

The M/S Eckerö operates between Grisslehamn in Sweden and Eckerö in the Åland Islands.
