Coast Guard helicopter evacuates injured hiker from Skaftafell

A Coast Guard helicopter was called out on Monday evening to assist an injured hiker in Skaftafell, mbl.is reported.

Ásgeir Erlendsson, an information officer with the Icelandic Coast Guard, said the hiker was not seriously injured. However, difficult conditions meant it was considered appropriate to request the helicopter’s assistance.

The helicopter was returning to Reykjavík, where the injured hiker would be taken to an emergency department by ambulance.
