Authorities intensify hunt for West Jutland problem wolf

Authorities have intensified the hunt for a wolf that entered three private gardens last week, DR reports. The Nature Agency came close to shooting the animal on Monday, but was unsuccessful.

“There were three of us on the ground yesterday, and this evening we are putting another drone in the air, giving us access to two drones with thermal cameras,” Minister for Nature and Animal Welfare Christian Rabjerg Madsen said.

A suspected wolf was seen running near a family restaurant in West Jutland on Monday evening. The sighting came in the same area where the wolf was previously seen in three private gardens.

Asked why the Nature Agency could not simply arrive and shoot the wolf when it was being filmed by several cameras, Madsen said the agency was responding to real-time reports.

“That is precisely what we are doing. The Nature Agency receives reports in real time, and I would like to praise all the people who are helping us by sending these reports. When we receive them, we respond promptly. That is why we came close yesterday,” he said.

Monday’s video footage did not show a dangerous situation, but Madsen said he still wanted the wolf in the area to be shot.

“Even if these are not necessarily dangerous situations, they create a sense of insecurity. They limit people’s freedom because they refrain from doing what they normally do. That is why I take this extremely seriously, and why I will only be satisfied when this wolf has been shot,” he said.
