Wolf spotted near family restaurant as drones search for problem wolf

A wolf was seen near a family restaurant north of Nørre Nebel on Monday evening, shortly after authorities deployed drones to search for a problem wolf in the area, Danish broadcaster DR reports.

The sighting took place at Den Gyldne Pande, a family restaurant located a few kilometres from Nørre Nebel and inside a new regulation zone established by the Ministry of Nature and Animal Welfare last week. The Danish Nature Agency is attempting to shoot the problem wolf there.

Owner and chef Per Buur Ørskov Frederiksen said a young waiter alerted him after seeing the animal near the restaurant’s trampoline.

Frederiksen said he ran out to the road and came within about five metres of the wolf, which appeared unconcerned. He said he was worried that children might be harmed.

The wolf’s presence caused brief panic among the restaurant’s guests and staff. Frederiksen said he was concerned when the animal came close to children, although it did not do anything. He added that he was undecided about whether the wolf should remain in the area, but said it should not enter gardens or approach people closely.

The sighting occurred less than a week after a wolf entered three private gardens around Nørre Nebel. The Danish Nature Agency said it had not yet shot the problem wolf involved in last week’s incidents.
