Five charged after machete-wielding group freed young person in Hamina

Yle reports that prosecutors have charged five people over the violent release of a young person from a placement unit for minors in Hamina.

The incident took place in September 2025. The charges include two counts of violently resisting a public official, coercion, two assaults, aggravated violation of domestic peace and aggravated deprivation of liberty.

The accused also face charges of aiding the offences and inciting aggravated violation of domestic peace. One of the accused was under 18 at the time of the alleged offences.
