Police continue Holbæk shooting investigation as three men remanded

Police are continuing to investigate Sunday’s shooting in Holbæk, where three men were wounded. Three other men have been remanded in custody in connection with the case, DR reports.

“There are still some loose ends, so the investigation is continuing at full speed, even though we have arrested the three people we believe were behind yesterday’s shooting,” Lars Krogsgaard, deputy police inspector with Midt- and West Zealand Police, said in the latest update to DR.

The three suspects, aged 22, 23 and 35, were remanded by a judge at the Holbæk court to protect the police investigation. According to the charges, cited by the Danish news agency Ritzau, the men acted together and the 23-year-old got out of a car and fired the shots.

All three deny the charge of attempted murder. The 23-year-old will remain in custody until 1 September, while the other two have been remanded for eight days.

The three men who were shot have all been out of danger since Sunday.

Senior prosecutor Andreas Dahl said the case was particularly serious because the shooting took place in a public space.

“It is always an extremely serious matter when shots are fired in the open. It not only puts those who were targeted in danger, but also everyone else in the area, and that naturally creates insecurity,” he said.

Police have not yet established a clear motive, but say the shooting is linked to the criminal environment in Holbæk. Krogsgaard said it appeared to involve a dispute within a criminal setting connected to housing neighbourhoods in the town.

The shooting took place near Grønneparken, a public housing complex formerly known as Vangkvarteret. Police currently have no other suspects in the case, but Krogsgaard said he could not rule out further arrests.

Resident gave first aid

Gitte Brink, who lives in Grønneparken, said she was sitting in her flat when she heard a shot.

She ran out onto the balcony and then heard two more shots, followed by someone shouting that they would call the police. She said she immediately realised that something was wrong.

Brink grabbed her clothes, keys and a first-aid kit before running downstairs, where she saw two people who had been shot near the playground.

She said a young girl was pressing a tea towel into one victim’s wound. Brink then applied a tourniquet because he was bleeding heavily.

Mayor condemns shooting

Christina Krzyrosiak Hansen, mayor of Holbæk Municipality, said she was “really, really angry” about the fear the shooting had caused among local residents.

“When something like this happens, we all become incredibly frightened. This is, to put it mildly, insane, and we will not accept it,” she said.

The mayor said residents had contacted her to say they were afraid and angry about the situation.

Police have urged people in the area to carry on as usual and contact officers if they are concerned. A larger local policing operation is under way, Krogsgaard said, adding that residents could approach officers present in the area.

The mayor praised the police work and said she was relieved that the three suspects had been arrested and remanded in custody.
