Stora Enso opens talks affecting 35 jobs at Uimaharju

Stora Enso is launching restructuring talks at its Uimaharju business unit in Joensuu, covering both the Uimaharju pulp mill and the nearby sawmill, Yle reported on Monday.

The talks cover the entire workforce of about 380 employees. Around 70 work at the sawmill, with the remainder employed at the pulp mill.

The company estimates that 35 job roles may be cut. Changes to duties may also be made at both the mill and the sawmill.

Ilpo Räty, head of the Uimaharju unit, said the talks were prompted by uncertainty in global markets and rising costs caused by higher energy prices and logistics expenses.

The aim is to integrate the pulp mill with the sawmill, Räty told Yle. The facilities currently operate as part of the same business unit.

The talks will begin on August 17 and last at least three weeks.
