Car catches fire moments after driver stops in Sandgerði

A car caught fire in Sandgerði on Monday morning, mbl.is reports. Firefighters from the Suðurnes Fire Service quickly extinguished the blaze.

The alarm was raised shortly before 10am. Pétur Óli, a watch manager with the fire service, said the driver of a 2019 Kia noticed a sudden smell of heat, resembling burning wires or an electrical fire. The car caught fire as soon as she stopped.

Firefighters had almost put out the blaze by the time they arrived, although the cause remains unknown. Drone footage from the scene showed the response.
