Rescue boat brings disabled fishing vessel back to Bolungarvík

A rescue boat brought a disabled fishing vessel back to Bolungarvík on Monday morning, mbl.is reported.

The Icelandic Coast Guard’s operations centre received a call shortly after 5am from the small fishing boat off Hlöðuvík in Hornstrandir. The crew requested assistance reaching shore.

According to Iceland’s Association for Search and Rescue, a malfunction had limited the boat’s speed to between one and two nautical miles per hour.

The crews of the rescue vessels Kobbi Láki from Bolungarvík and Guðmundur í Tungu from Ísafjörður were initially called out. The crew of Guðmundur í Tungu was later stood down after Kobbi Láki had been fully staffed.

Kobbi Láki left port shortly after 5.30am and reached the fishing boat about an hour later. The vessels then made a slow journey back to Bolungarvík, arriving shortly after 9.30am.
