Police investigate suspicious death in Haugesund

A man was found dead in Haugesund on Saturday, and police are investigating the death as suspicious, Dagbladet reports.

“We can confirm that we are investigating a death in Haugesund, but we are at an early stage and are working to establish what happened,” police prosecutor Ellen Mellemstrand Gimre of the South-West Police District told Dagbladet.

Police have not released further information about the deceased or said who notified them of the incident.

A man was arrested on Sunday morning, Gimre said. He is suspected of failing to provide assistance to a person in a helpless condition, under Section 288 of Norway’s Penal Code.

The deceased person’s next of kin have been notified. Police said they would not release further details at this stage out of consideration for the investigation.
