Police report seven assaults in central Reykjavik

Seven assaults were reported to police in central Reykjavik and neighbouring areas on Saturday evening and overnight, mbl.is reports. Police said there was no indication that weapons were used.

Hjördís Sigurbjartsdóttir, deputy chief superintendent with the Capital Region Police, said the incidents remained under investigation. She had no information about serious injuries.

Some people were taken to hospital for examination, but police had no further details about injuries, she said.

The reports were made in the area covered by Police Station 1, which includes the eastern and western parts of Reykjavik, the city centre and Seltjarnarnes.

Hjördís said the number of reports was not considered unusually high given how many people were in the city. The annual Pride parade and related events took place in central Reykjavik and continued into the evening.

She said the parade itself went well and that there was general satisfaction with the day.
