Keflavik Airport security queue creates morning bottleneck

A long queue formed at security screening at Keflavik Airport on Saturday morning, leaving travellers waiting longer than usual, mbl.is reports.

Andri Ómarsson, deputy information officer at Isavia, said the airport was experiencing the peak of its summer traffic and was therefore busy.

He said the proportion of transfer passengers appeared to have been lower than usual, meaning a higher share of travellers needed to pass through security screening.

“It was well staffed, with plenty of excellent employees carrying out their important duties,” Ómarsson told mbl.is.

He said the queues may also have been caused by passengers whose flights were later in the morning arriving especially early.

“Then these things clash and a bottleneck forms,” he said. “The situation was resolved, but it is summer and the airport is busy. Passengers should expect queues during peak periods.”

Ómarsson urged passengers to check in online before arriving at the airport and to use the self-service machines there.
