Police step up security for Pride parade

Police will increase their presence during today’s Pride parade, Árni Friðleifsson, deputy chief of the traffic division of the Capital Region Police, told mbl.is. “We are doing our best to ensure the safety of both those taking part in the parade and spectators,” he said.

Árni said the event had gone well in recent years and that he hoped the same would happen this year. Police preparations will otherwise follow the usual arrangements.

Several streets in central Reykjavík will be closed, including Skólavörðustígur, Bankastræti, Lækjargata and Sóleyjargata. Further information on the closures is available on the Reykjavík Pride website.

Árni urged visitors to the city centre to respect the closures and follow instructions, and wished everyone an enjoyable day.
