MDG politician considers report over alleged covert filming

MDG politician Eivind Trædal says he and his family were filmed without their knowledge during a holiday, according to Dagbladet. He is considering reporting the post, which was shared on Snapchat and in Facebook groups.

Trædal wrote on his public Facebook profile on Friday that he and his wife, former MDG politician Lan Marie Berg, were filmed while they were in his mother’s car. The footage was accompanied by aggressive comments, he said.

The filming allegedly took place through the window of Åmli café in Agder, which the family visited during their holiday. A screenshot shows Trædal and Berg entering a Toyota hybrid car alongside the caption: “MDG’s Trædal and Lan take Norway in a fossil-fuel car.”

Trædal identified local Frp politician Tobias Wessel-Hansen Tangen as the person behind the video. Tangen denied to Nettavisen, which first reported the case, that the filming was covert.

“He was not filmed secretly. He was filmed in a public place, and filming a prominent politician with extreme views in a public place, doing exactly what they say others should not do, is political ammunition,” Tangen told the newspaper.

Trædal told Dagbladet that he was considering reporting the post. Tangen called this “ridiculous” and said Trædal was misunderstanding Norwegian freedom of expression.

Trædal rejected the criticism, saying it misrepresented the Green Party’s policy.

“I would like him to find a quote where I have said that people should not be allowed to drive a hybrid car in Åmli or borrow a car from their family. He probably has a very skewed view of what I and the Green Party believe,” Trædal said.
