A 16-year-old girl died after a traffic accident on Julsundvegen near Mordalsvågen in Molde on Thursday morning, Dagbladet reported.

Emergency services were called at 5.39am. Police said three people were involved. The driver was trapped in the car, while two passengers managed to get out.

The driver, an 18-year-old man, was freed and taken to hospital with serious injuries. He was later transferred by air ambulance to St Olav’s Hospital in Trondheim. The other passenger, a 17-year-old boy, is receiving hospital treatment and appears to have suffered minor injuries.

All three were initially taken to the trauma unit at Sykehuset Nordmøre og Romsdal in Hjelset. The deceased girl was from Møre og Romsdal, and her next of kin have been notified.

Preliminary findings indicate that the car was travelling west from Molde before leaving the road on a gentle right-hand bend. The speed limit on the stretch is 80 kilometres per hour, but police said it was too early to determine the vehicle’s speed. No skid marks have been found.

The accident investigation unit and forensic technicians examined the scene. The car sustained extensive damage, and police are continuing their investigation.
