Yle reports that police pre-trial material contains details about the suspected killing of Saara Arva, who disappeared in autumn 2019. Her remains were found in April 2024 in Vesanto, in Northern Savonia.
Police began suspecting Mika Moring, also described as a serial predator, soon after Arva disappeared. Investigators interviewed him in December 2019 about his time with Arva that summer.
“I really wonder about this whole thing. Why am I being dragged into this, why am I being held over something like this?” Moring said at the time, according to the material.
Moring is now charged in the Northern Savonia District Court with killing Arva and aggravated deprivation of liberty. He denies both charges.
Yle has published Moring’s name because he faces exceptionally serious charges and has previously been sentenced to unconditional imprisonment for several violent and sexual offences. The broadcaster has also published the alleged victim’s name because of the exceptional nature of the case and the importance of public tips in its investigation.
