Fire service rescues 20 guests from Legoland roller coaster

Twenty guests were rescued from a roller coaster at the Legoland amusement park in Billund after it stopped about 10 metres above the ground, DR reported.

The fire service was called at 5.19pm, and Trekantbrand finished helping everyone down shortly after 8pm, operations chief Morten Jeppesen told DR.

The guests were seated upright in the train, but there was no platform for them to step onto. Specialist crews were therefore needed to bring them safely to the ground.

Although the operation took several hours, the situation remained calm. No one panicked or was injured, Jeppesen said.

Legoland public relations manager Mia Øgendal said the incident was caused by a temporary operational stoppage. The ride’s safety systems had worked as intended, which caused it to stop, she wrote to DR News.

The cause of the stoppage will now be investigated. The ride will not reopen until it has been thoroughly inspected and approved, Øgendal said.

Jeppesen said it was not an ordinary assignment for the fire service, but that crews had the necessary equipment and training to bring the guests down safely.
