Joachim Posener resurfaces in Netflix documentary on Trustor affair

Joachim Posener, who was identified as the mastermind behind one of Sweden’s most widely reported financial scandals, has appeared publicly in a Netflix documentary nearly 30 years later, SVT reports. He was never convicted in the Trustor affair.

In 1997, a group of financiers bought the investment company Trustor. The arrangement involved using Trustor’s own money to finance the purchase, while more than 600 million kronor was transferred from the company to accounts in London.

Posener was identified as the architect of the deal. By the time the affair was exposed, he was already abroad and chose to live on the run.

In the documentary, Posener describes fleeing to South America, changing his appearance and hiding in a favela in Rio de Janeiro. He says he financed his first years on the run with five million kronor, and later supported himself as an adviser and consultant.

After 10 years of police searches and speculation about his whereabouts, authorities had still not found him. The suspected offences became time-barred in 2007 without his role ever being tested in court.

Posener is now 62 and, according to police information, lives in France.
