National Library seeks host to restore digital news archive

The National Library is considering which provider will host the Faroese digital material formerly available on tidarrit.fo, Kringvarp Føroya reports. The archive could be available again before the end of the year.

Two foreign providers are competing for the contract. The National Library has requested bids from timarrid.fo, an Icelandic platform with which the Faroe Islands have previously collaborated, and Retriever.

Both platforms are already established, so little work should be needed to make the service function, according to Annika Smith, director of the National Library.

“In reality, it is simply a matter of hosting the material and creating Faroese text,” Smith said.

Since the provider of tidarrit.fo discontinued its service, it has not been possible to access the National Library’s old material digitally.
