Holiday-home sales value rose as number of deals fell

Holiday-home sales in Finland were worth 226.2 million euros in January to June, up 5.3 per cent from the same period last year, Yle reports, citing a market review by the Central Association of Finnish Real Estate Agencies.

The number of transactions fell by 1.6 per cent to 1,580.

The average holiday-home sale price was 144,000 euros, while the median price was 100,000 euros. Lapland recorded the highest total sales value, at 47.6 million euros.

Tuomas Viljamaa, the association’s chief executive, said the market was being supported by the growing prevalence of remote work and an increase in holiday-home rentals.

Many of Finland’s approximately 500,000 cottages are owned by people aged over 70 and are expected to change hands during the next decade.
