Kringvarp Føroya has launched a new four-part radio series examining how the Faroe Islands can build thousands of new homes without compromising architectural quality or good neighbourhoods.

The series, titled “More than a roof over your head”, explores how good architecture can create better homes. It is hosted by Gunnar Nolsøe.

Faroese architects explain what should be prioritised when new homes are built and present examples of successful housing developments in the Faroe Islands and abroad.

Architect Annie Heinesen is the guest in the first programme. She identifies Dalabú, a housing development by Bústøðum, as one of the best examples of successful housing construction in the Faroe Islands.

“Several thousand new homes must be built in the coming years, so the question is how they can be built with good architecture and sustainable solutions,” Nolsøe says.

Heinesen also says people should clarify what they want and dream of before building a home, while checking what is realistic in relation to the price and their budget.
