IF Metall calls new strike at Tesla workshops

Swedish trade union IF Metall has again called its members out on strike at Tesla facilities, SVT reports. The action follows the failure of the parties to reach an agreement.

A blockade of all work at Tesla workshops in Malmö, Umeå, Uppsala, Upplands Väsby, Segeltorp and Huddinge will take effect on August 13.

IF Metall has been in a long-running dispute with TM Sweden AB, Tesla’s Swedish company, which is responsible for the carmaker’s sales, leasing, servicing, workshops and expansion of charging stations in Sweden. A strike began in late October 2023, but was suspended at several locations across the country in May and June.

The dispute began because TM Sweden has not agreed to sign a collective agreement with IF Metall members.

Dagens Arbete has previously reported on IF Metall’s plans for what it called a “yo-yo strike”. The strategy would involve Tesla mechanics temporarily returning to work before being called out on strike again. According to sources cited by the newspaper, the aim was to create chaos and uncertainty for Tesla and encourage the company to agree to a collective agreement.

SVT says it is seeking comment from IF Metall and Tesla.
