Three apartments were rendered uninhabitable following a fire that occurred last night in Nilsiä, Kuopio. The blaze ignited on the outdoor terrace of an end unit in a row house located on Laatokantie. When firefighters arrived, the fire had already spread to the outer wall and attic of the six-unit building. The fire department quickly extinguished the flames and ensured that there were no smoldering remnants in the attic.
A resident from a neighboring building first noticed the fire. Fire Chief Risto Taskinen from the North Savo Rescue Department noted that the compartmentalization of the attic helped to contain the spread of the fire. Firefighters assisted a total of four residents to safety, and fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
On-call firefighter Antti Korhonen also from the North Savo Rescue Department stated that the affected residents were able to find accommodations in another building within the same row house complex.
It is worth noting that a fire occurred in the same compound about two weeks ago when a waste shed on the property caught fire. That previous incident completely destroyed the shed and damaged three nearby vehicles. The police are currently investigating the causes of both fires.
