Parties propose higher support for energy and travel costs

Faroese parties Sjálvstýri and Tjóðveldi want to increase financial support for people facing high energy costs, Kringvarp Føroya (KVF) reports.

The parties have proposed amendments to the laws governing family allowances and travel support.

Under one proposal, the energy supplement would rise from 5,000 kroner to 12,000 kroner this year. The income and asset thresholds for receiving the supplement would also be increased.

The measure would cost the treasury 3.8 million kroner, financed through a supplementary appropriations law.

The two parties also want to increase travel support, providing an additional 1,100 kroner this year. That proposal would cost the treasury 5 million kroner in 2027.
