Swedish gang leader arrested in Spain, authorities confirm

Swedish gang leader Emin Muqa Kulic has been arrested in Spain, Swedish authorities confirmed on Monday, according to SVT News. The arrest took place during the night before Saturday, and SVT reported that he was detained at the former home of Jonas Falk.

Authorities say Kulic is believed to have been part of the leadership of the Dalen network, a criminal network in Sweden. Senior prosecutor Ida Arnell said investigators believe he directed young people to carry out serious violent crimes in Sweden.

Kulic has been remanded in custody in absentia on suspicion of, among other offences, aiding and abetting murder and attempted murder in Sweden.

The prosecutor has issued a European arrest warrant seeking his extradition to Sweden. Spain will now consider the request. Arnell said the arrest followed a planned operation based on extensive surveillance work and cooperation with Spanish police.

Another person has already been detained in the case over largely the same alleged offences. That person was extradited from Mexico in October last year, Arnell said.

Kulic, 21, is believed to have belonged to the leadership of the Dalen network for several years. Police have described him as the right-hand man of Mikael Tenezos, known as Greek. The two men are previously suspected of having been in Mexico together.

Kulic was added to Europol’s most wanted list in the spring. At the time, he was wanted on suspicion of incitement to and aiding and abetting murder, attempted murder, weapons offences and explosions.
